99.1 WPLR’s Morning Host “AJ” Lived In A Box For 24 Hours And Raised $25,000
Connecticut’s most popular and Marconi winning morning team, Chaz & AJ, staged an event at McDermott Chevrolet and Lexus in East Haven where AJ lived in a box for 24 hours. Thanks to the very generous listeners they raised $25,000 for their upcoming toy drive.
The Chaz & AJ McDermott Chevrolet and Lexus Toy Drive will take place on December 7th at Jordans Furniture in New Haven. The annual event generally raises over $100,000 in toys and cash for local children’s charities like Boys and Girls Village in Milford, Rite Way 4 Kids in New Haven, McGivney Community Center in Bridgeport, Chemical Abuse Services Agency Inc in New Haven and Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley.
The box was situated outside of McDermott Chevrolet and Lexus on 655 Main Street in East Haven. AJ entered at 9am on Tuesday and came out this morning, 24 hours later. He never slept, endured very cold temperatures and listeners watched constantly via streaming video.
Also, throughout the day and night, he was forced to listen to “Lovesick Blues” by Mason Ramsey (Walmart yodeling kid) on repeat. “We made lemonade out of one huge lemon!” said AJ referring to the tune.
Hundreds of people stopped by, took pictures, said hello, and gave donations.
“An amazing 24 hours. AJ was incredibly impressive and a huge thank you to all the 991 PLR listeners who came out to support the event,” said Chaz, who came up with this idea.
